Happy Father's Day

by Kathy Berger

Today would not normally be a day on which I post, but with Father's Day rapidly approaching, I thought you might like to see this quick and easy card for Dad. In my family, Father's Day meant a new shirt and tie for Dad and here they are:

Corner round the edges using the the corner chompers.
    Set aside.

  • With the card in landscape orientation on the Scor-Pal, score at the two grooves marked with a small dot.
These are at 2 1/8” and 6 3/8” from the left fence of the Scor-Pal, and will prepare the card for a gate fold.

Fold on the score lines to make a gate fold card.
Fold a small portion of the top of the card front away from the center opening at an angle to form a collar.
Fold the right side only at the bottom of the card.
Stamp the "Happy Father's Day" from the Thanks Dad set on the lower left side of the card front.

  • Stamp the tie from the For Him set diagonally on the scrap of striped card.
Cut out the tie and attach at an angle to the left side of the card front, right below the collar.

  • Use glue dots to attach small buttons to the card front.

  • Corner round the bottom two corners of the one inch square of white card stock.
Add the tiny strip of white card stock across the top of the square.
Hand draw some stitches to make a pocket.
Glue in place on the card front to make a shirt pocket.

  • Use foam dots to attach the Celebrate panel to the inside of the card, making sure it is placed low enough that it won't show when the card is closed.

I hope you will have a special Father's Day with the important father in your life. Looking forward to sharing with you again soon!

Celebrate!

by Kathy Berger

CELEBRATE!

This card was made using a layout sketch that I drew up almost two years ago... it is one of my favorite go-to sketches. I hope you'll enjoy it, too.

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Bazzill Singles, Diablo     ( BAZ-2-233   $0.59), Cut to :
      • 3 1/2" x 3 3/4"
      • 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"
      • 7/8" x 3"
    • American Cardstock - Sapphire     ( AMC-CSP-71074   $0.50), Cut to 1 1/4" x 3 3/4"
    • White card-stock, cut to:
      • 8 1/2" x 4 1/4", scored to form standard card
      • 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"
      • 5/8" x 2 3/4"
      • 3 strips, each 3/4" x 3"
      • 3 strips, each 1/2" x 5 1/2"
      • Small scrap for small stars
    • Scrap of yellow card stock (about 3" x 1")
    • Scrap of dark blue card stock (1" x 1 1/2")
  • Stamps
    • Stampendous, For Him, 4"x6" sheet     ( STM-SSC-135   $14.99)
    • Stampendous, Hot Rocketz, 4"x6" sheet     ( STM-SSC-1030   $14.99)
    • Autumn leaves, Hearts by Rhonna Farrer     ( AL-RS-2510   $18.00)
  • Ink
  • Embellishments
    • Bo Bunny Wrapped Ribbon, Double Dot Wild Berry     ( BBP-R-072   $2.59)
  • Tools
  • Strong adhesive of choice

Instructions

  • Use the brush markers to ink stars from the Autumn Leaves set and stamp them randomly on the 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" rectangle of white card stock.
Draw additional small stars and little spirals to fill in some of the blank space.
Make sure to stamp/draw off the edges of the card.
Affix the stamped white panel to the 3 1/2" x 3 3/4" blue rectangle.
Tie a piece of the ribbon around the panel and trim the ends.

  • Apply white craft ink all over the inside of the embossing folder (on the smoother side.)

Emboss the 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" rectangle of card-stock with the inked folder using the appropriate sandwich for your die cut machine.

  • Use the edger punch on the long edge of the piece of red card stock.
Attach the red cardstock to the embossed blue card stock, just along the edge.
Apply glue to back of both pieces as though they were a single piece then affix to the white card.

  • Affix the stamped panel onto the card, overlapping the embossed layer.
Attach the dark blue scrap to the left of the main layer.
Punch 3 little stars out of the scrap of white card stock.
Attach them to the blue panel.
  • Stamp the galaxy from the Hot Rocketz set twice in blue and twice in red on the inside of the card, as shown.

  • Fold over about a quarter inch of one of the 3 long narrow strips of card stock.
Apply glue to that folded over area.
Glue that to the other end of the strip to form a loop.
    Squash the loop flat.
Open the loop back up and then make a fold in it between 1/2 inch and 1 inch from one of the other folds.
Squash the loop flat at that fold. When you open the loop back up, it should now be rectangular, like a bottomless box.
Repeat with the other 2 strips.

Glue the loop into the inside of the card, placing one of the corners of the loop into the fold, and gluing the back and bottom of the loop, only.
This will form three pop-up stands to which the firecrackers will be attached.

  • Use the blue brush marker on the "celebrate" stamp and stamp it on the 5/8" x 2 3/4" piece of white card stock.
Corner round the four corners using the 1/4" side of the corner chompers.
Corner round the four corners of the 7/8" x 3" piece of blue card stock.
Attach the white word panel to the blue panel, and then attach both to the card.

  • Use the brush sides of the markers to draw stars on one of the remaining white rectangles, being sure to go off the edges.
Use the brush sides of the markers to draw diagonal lines and dots on another of the remaining rectangles.
Use the fine sides of the markers to draw random swirls and dots on the final rectangle.

Affix the rectangles to the front of the loops inside the cards.

Punch 3 of the 16-point stars out of the yellow card-stock scrap.
Affix one to each of the three firecrackers.

The finished inside of the card:

I hope you'll try the layout. You will be amazed at how different the card will be if you use different color schemes and images. Here is another card from that layout, with a little different feel.

Until the next time, all the best!

That's a Grand Ol Flag

by Lis Whiting

Grand Ol Flag

July Fourth (the United States' Independence Day) means a great deal to my family. My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War (and many others). Freedom is something very special and something I treasure. To honor all servicemen and women past, present and future, I made this card. The title of the card comes from the following lyrics.

You're a grand old flag,

You're a high flying flag,

And forever in peace may you wave.

You're the emblem of the land I love,

The home of the free and the brave.

Ev'ry heart beats true

'Neath the Red, White and Blue.

Where there's never a boast or a brag.

But should auld acquaintance be forgot,

Keep your eyes on the grand old flag!

This card would also be great for Flag Day, celebrated here in the States on June 14.

Materials

Instructions

  • Take the largest piece of typhoon and fold in half to create your base card.

  • Attach the layer of Kevin cardstock.

  • Attach the red as the next layer.

  • Attach the white to the smaller piece of typhoon and attach to the card.

  • Use a cuttlebug, sizzix or other to die cut the letters USA from the Cirque alphabet (Tim Holtz fabulous sizzix strip die).
I cut the letters from some brown Basic Grey cardstock scraps I had lying around.
Attach to the bottom left of the card diagonally.
  • To make the embellishments (star, heart and label with “10”)choose your die cuts from the Elements grunge board, and cover them with distress ink, as follows:
    • Heart – fired brick
    • The number 10 – faded jeans
    • The label – wild honey
    • The big star – faded jeans
    • The small star – spun sugar
Coat with clear embossing powder and heat to emboss.
    • Use tweezers or alligator clip to hold the grunge board.
Add embossing powder immediately after applying ink, and then again immediately after heating, so that the embossing powder sticks to the warm grunge board.
Do this 3-4 times to get a really shiny coating on it.
  • Take a small hole punch and punch a hole in the centers of both stars.
Attach the two stars together, using a glitter brad.

  • Punch a small hole in each of the numbers and the label, and attach the numbers to the label.
Add two more glitter brads to cover the holes on either end of the label.

  • Attach the three embellishments with either a strong double sided tape or strong glue.
  • Add a border of peel off glitter gold sticker stars around the border.

I hope that you enjoyed this card. See you next time!
