Beaded Rose Card

by Anne Harada

Beaded Rose Card

Materials

Instructions

  • Prepare the card base by scoring and folding an 11” x 4” Vanilla cardstock panel in half.
    Set aside.

  • Cut a piece of Curio Designer Paper to 3-3/4” x 5-1/4”.
Darken the edges of the DP all the way around with a marker.

  • Cut a different piece from the Curio Designer Paper collection to 3-14/” x 4-3/8”.
Darken the edges and layer onto the front of your card.
Keep the left over paper out for the one of the following steps.

  • Wrap a 6-1/2” strip of ribbon around the card layers.
Towards the bottom of the ribbon (see photo), tie a piece of floss or clear string so the ribbon gathers where the bow will later be placed.
(This will be hidden by the bow.)

  • Using markers direct-to-rubber on your stamp, color the rose and stamp it onto the unused portion of the Curio Designer Paper from the previous step.

  • Die cut two of the Oval Classic Scallop Small shapes out of Chestnut cardstock using the largest scallop of the “small” set.

  • Using the largest die from the Ovals Large set, position it over the rose image that you stamped and die cut out the rose into an oval shape.

  • Using the die cut rose oval as a template, cut out an oval shape from tape-sheet with scissors (this is a double-sided sticky paper sheet).
The oval from the tape sheet will have removable backing on both sides.

  • Position the largest oval die from the Ovals Small set in the center of either one of the Chestnut scalloped ovals.
Run it through your die cut machine so it cuts out the inside of the scalloped oval and creates a “frame” for your image.
Leave the other scalloped oval “whole”.

  • Adhere the oval rose image to the center of the whole scalloped oval.

  • Remove one side of the backing from the oval tape-sheet you cut out and lay it over the rose oval, sticky side down so that it covers just the oval rose die cut shape.

  • Peel off the remaining backing of the oval tape-sheet to expose the sticky layer. Layer the scalloped “frame” over the sticky image and align the scalloped edges with the whole scalloped oval on the bottom.

  • Poor clear microbeads over the exposed sticky layer of the rose image.

  • Press down to ensure complete coverage.
Pour excess beads back into jar.

  • Using foam dimensionals, attach the beaded image to the card layers, centered over the ribbon strip.

  • Tie a bow with more ribbon and adhere it to the bottom of the framed rose. Adhere completed card front to card base.

“Kiss Me” Tag

by Kris Hankins

“Kiss Me” Tag

I made this vintage “kiss me” tag for my special someone for Valentine’s Day. It shares a variation on the spotlight technique.

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Bazzill Dotted Swiss Phoenix     ( BAZ-2-245   $0.59)
    • Tim Holtz Seasonal Paper Stash     ( ADV-THPad-92866   $14.99)
    • Cream Cardstock of choice
  • Stamps
    • Valentine stamp of choice (chose an image with a central focal point)
  • Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Inks
  • Embellishments
    • Sheer Dots Ribbon, Light Brown, 24”     ( MA-JD-33   $0.59/yard)
    • Solid Satin Waves Ribbon, Brown, 10”     ( MA-QF-233   $0.99/yard)
    • French Lace Paper Doilies, 5”     ( FRA-DS5-20   $1.49)
  • Tools
  • Media

Instructions

  • Cut a 3.5” x 6” tag from the Bazzill Swiss Dots cardstock.
Age the edges of the tag with a stipple brush and chestnut roan fluid chalk ink.

  • On cream colored cardstock, stamp two (2) identical Valentine images – one using dark brown fluid chalk ink and one using warm red fluid chalk ink.

  • Cut out the “red” heart from one stamped image.

  • Add a layer of Ranger Sepia Accents to the entire heart.
    Let dry thoroughly.
Crack this piece when dried completely.
Accent the edges of the cracked heart with cinnamon Stickles.

  • Cut/trim around the outside of the 2nd stamped image (dark brown).
Stipple the edges with the warm red fluid chalk ink, followed by the chestnut roan fluid chalk ink.
You should end up with a vintage/aged look.

  • Tip – Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Ink is great to “age” paper.
It has the ability to stay wet just a bit longer than most inks, therefore allowing more work time.
Lightly applying this ink with a stipple brush gives a very soft aged look.
Just tap the brush in the ink and tap and swirl onto your paper.
Try using more than one color to accomplish this.

  • Glue the “cracked” heart securely to the base stamped image.
You now have a “spotlighted” image.

  • Highlight areas of the stamped piece with cinnamon Stickles.

  • Stipple a doilie using chestnut roan and dark brown fluid chalk inks.

  • Lightly rub cinnamon Stickles over the entire doilie, allowing the glitter to catch in the doilies design.
Attach the doilie to the front of the tag.
Trim (or fold back) any excess doilie.

  • Attach stamped image to tag using 3D foam dots.

  • From the Valentine paper in the Tim Holtz Seasonal Stash, cut out the letters needed to spell “kiss me”.
Attach to front of tag using 3D foam dots.

  • Punch a hole in tag and add your ribbons.

Four Purses Card

by Kathy Berger

Four Purses

This card will probably look a little familiar... Lis made a very similar card that was posted yesterday. When I first saw her card I fell in love with the little purses, and knew I just had to make a card like it. I was inspired! Unfortunately, though, the little purse stickers weren't currently available at FranticStamper, so I decided to make my own. I used a variety of punches and materials I had on hand to make my version of the card (Totally CASEd from hers!)

My card is monochramatic in pink; I have a loved one who is battling stage 4 breast cancer, and the card is for her. The next time I make a card like this, though, I will probably try the wonderful color scheme from Lis's card.

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Bazzill Blossom     ( BAZ-1-122   $0.59)

    • White cardstock scraps

    • I used pink papers by Mellissa Frances and Daisy D's that have been discontinued.
      I would recommend substituting:
      • Sweet Love Double-sided Shimmer Paper, Sweet Stripes/Tiny Hearts     ( LYB-P-SL106   $1.29)
      • Sweet Love Double-sided Shimmer Paper, Love Birds/Pink Gingham     ( LYB-P-SL107   $1.29)
      • Sweet Love Double-sided Shimmer Paper, Love In Bloom/Red Petals     ( LYB-P-SL105   $1.29)
  • Embellishments
    • Small pieces of narrow ribbon and or floss.
    • Assorted mini-brads     ( Various )
    • Prima Sprites 2, Fuchsia     ( PRI-SP-517236
    •   $4.99)
    • Pink Ribbon, 1/4" width, about 12"
  • Punches
  •       NOTE: These are the punches I used, but many other punches would be suitable. Experiment!
    • EK Success Slim Line Large Punch, Real Estate Sign     ( EK-PSN-54-30033   $14.99)
    • EK Success Whale of a punch, scalloped tag     ( EK-RSNAPS001   $13.99)
    • EK Success Whale of a punch, Circle, 1 3/4"     ( EK-PSPWP-01   $13.99)
    • EK Success Whale of a punch, Square, 1 3/8"     ( EK-PSPNP-01   $13.99)
    • EK Success New Style Medium Punch, Scallop Circle, 1"     ( EK-EKPL-7003   $8.99)
    • Martha Stewart Medium Punch, Scalloped Circle, 1"     ( not currently available, use other scallop circle)
    • EK Success Circle Punch, 1/2"     ( EK-PSP-02   $4.59)
    • EK Success Circle Punch, 3/4"     ( EK-PSPNP-15   $8.99)
    • Fiskars 1/16" Circle Hand Punch     ( FIK-hnd-1/16   $6.95)

    Set aside.

  • Cut a 5 1/2"x11"piece of the Bazzill cardstock.br Scor and fold at 5 1/2" (in landscape orientation) to make a 5 1/2"x5 1/2" square card.

  • Cut four pieces of the Bazzill cardstock, each 2 1/4"x2 1/4".
    Set aside.

  • Cut four pieces of a lighter toned patterned paper to 2 1/8"x2 1/8".
Mount these onto the reserved Bazzill squares.
    Set aside.

  • Cut four pieces of a darker toned patterned paper to 2"x2".
Mount onto the the reserved squares.
    Set aside.

  • Cut a 5 1/4" square piece of the lighter toned paper used above.
Center the bow on the front of this paper, and wrap the ends around to the back of the paper and glue or tape into place.
Mount the paper onto the front of the card.

  • Mount the four squares onto the front of the card.
    Set the card aside.

  • Create the four purses.

    • Punch a Real Estate Sign out of a striped patterned paper.
      Fold it in half.

Use a small piece of foam tape to seal the open edge.
Trim the fold edge as shown.

Trim the other side the same way.
      The main purse is formed.
Punch a scalloped tag out of white cardstock.

Align the bottom of the tag with the open edge of the back of the purse piece and glue into place.
Fold the top of the tag over the fold edge of the purse to form a flap.

Attach a small loop of ribbon or fiber to the fold of the scalloped tag.

Affix the flap to the purse with a glue dot.
Punch a 1/16" hole in the tip of the flap.
Add a square mini-brad through the hole.

      The first purse is done.

    • Punch a square of one of the brighter papers.

Fold up about 1/4 of the bottom edge of the square.
Affix that folded piece to the back with some foam tape, forming the purse body.

Punch a 1" Scallop Circle out of white cardstock.

Fold the scallop circle in half and center on the top edge of the purse body.
Affix the scallop to the back of the purse body.
Trim the purse body from the lower corners to the edges of the scalloped flap.

Prepare a handle by punching first a 1/2" circle out of white cardstock.
Punch a ring by punching a 3/4" circle on the white cardstock, ccentered around the hole left by the first punch.
      Cut the ring in half.

Attach the half circle to the back of the purse body to form the handle.

Affix the front of the flap to the body of the purse with a glue dot.
Punch a 1/16" hole centered near the edge of the flap.
Attach a circle mini-brad through the hole.

      The second purse is done.

    • Punch a large circle out of a light-toned patterned paper.

On the wrong side of the circle, fold in two sides about 1/4" each.

Use a small piece of foam tape to affix one of the folded panels to the back; affix the other flap with glue of choice.
Create a ring of a darker toned patterned paper by double punching with the 1/2" and 3/4" punches (described in more detail in purse II.)
Punch a scallop circle out of white card-stock.
      Fold the circle in half.
Make small slits along the fold in the circle.
Pass the ring through the slits in the circle.

Glue the scallop circle in place.

Punch three 1/16" holes near the purse edge of the scallop circle and insert three mini flower brads.

      The third purse is finished.

    • Punch a large circle out of double sided printed paper.

With the lighter toned side up, fold over about a third of the circle to form a flap.
Trim off a portion of one side.
Use the cut piece to help guide your cut from the other side, making sure they match.

Crochet a 1 1/4"chain from some ebroidery floss.

Punch two 1/16" holes near the fold, but toward the front of the purse.
Use a floss threader to pass the ends of the floss through the holes.

Attach the ends of the floss to the inside of the purse flap with a small piece of tape.
Curl the flap slightly around the end of the crochet hook or other small cylindrical object, and affix the flap with a glue dot.

Punch a 1/16" hole in the edge of the flap. Attach a small star brad through the hole.

      The fourth purse is finished.

  • Add a purse to the center of each of the four squares on the card with a 3-d foam dot.

  • Stack two Prima flowers together with a brad in their centers.
Affix the flower to the center of the card with a 3-D foam dot.
