Prima Transparency Scrapbooking Page

Materials

Instructions

  • Beginning with the Prima transparency, trim ¼ inch off of the four edges. Turnover, you will be working on the back side of the transparency.
    Using the pearl Paint Dauber, daub repeatedly over the entire surface of the transparency to coat it with paint. Use the Cranberry Dauber to daub over the edges.
    Put aside to dry thoroughly.


  • With the Pink Coredinations paper, trim ¼ inch from the left and a ¼ inch from the bottom. Using a pair of scissors, scruff up the edges of the card and layer the acetate face up over the pink side of the cardstock. You could use a paper distresser but I find the scissors roughs up the edge with a more random effect.


  • Attach card/acetate to the centre of the Bazzill Swiss Dots paper.


  • Using the copic markers, colour the flourish sections of the acetate around the frame and left edge.


  • Stamp the long border from the Whimsical Frames set onto the green side of the green coredinations card using the Aged Mahogany pad. Stamp the Moment tag from the Doodled Tag stamps onto the green coredinations paper as well.


  • Cut each element out lightly sand the edges to distress.


  • Open a new Publisher document on your computer and type in your title using the Word Art feature. Make sure that whatever font you use is set to no higher than 3 inches. (I used a free font called AlexBrush which can be found here http://fonts-free.net/fonts-chu-vni.htm).


  • Flip your font horizontally so that the title is back to front.


  • Print your title onto the remaining piece of light green coredinations card, printing onto the green side.


  • Cut out your title using a sharp blade or a fine point pair of scissors. Don’t worry about staying exactly on the lines as you will be turning it over so they won’t be seen.


  • Turn your title over so it is facing the right way (black side up) and gently sand over the letters to reveal some of the green underside.


  • Attach your photo with the ¼ inch tape along three edges to create a pocket.


  • Peel off the sticky backing from the Felt stem and adhere to the bottom left side of the page.


  • Adhere the Whimsical frame to the right side of the felt stem.


  • Attach two of the Prima roses to the stem, I chose to add one to the top of the stem and the other to the right side of the stem. Adhere the title to your page, ensuring the first letter begins within the Whimsical frame.


  • Cut a small scrap of green coredinations card to fit within the centre of one of the ornate plates. Attach the plate to your page using the brads supplied with the plates.


  • Punch a hole in the top section of the stamped moment tag and tie a length of ric rac to the hole.


  • Add your journaling to your tag before tucking it behind your photo in the pocket you created earlier. Finally, write the date on the card within the ornate frame.

Faux Fleur De Lis Card

  • Fold the black cardstock in half to make the base for your card. The final measurement should be 5 ½ x 4 ¼. Set it aside.

  • Take your white glossy cardstock and run it through either your Wizard, Sizzix or Cuttlebug machine with the embossing folder.


  • Add gold foil to the top of your embossing in one of two ways:

    • Using a ZIG two way glue pen (always always shake it well before each use), add glue to the tops of all the lines; wait to dry. It will dry tacky. You can then attach the foil.

    • If you use commercial grade hot embossing foil, you can use a heated craft iron (NOT a regular iron that you use on clothes) and iron on the foil.

  • Use Liquid Pearls to add the fleurs. You will add one fleur to the center of each diamond.
    Liquid pearls is a dimensional paint that comes in a tube like glitter glue. It dries and looks like a pearl (hence the name). I love to use it to add pretty touches to my cards. Its very easy. Don’t shake the bottle because you don’t want bubbles.


  • Your first piece will be the center/top part of the fleur. Start by touching the tip of the applicator to the glossy cardstock and gently squeezing a round ball. Drag the ball down with the tip to create an upside down teardrop. This will be the center of the fleur.


  • Make your second ball on one side and start a little lower than the top of the first ball. Pull this down and toward the center fleur. The end should touch the tail of the first ball.


  • The third and last round ball should go on the other side of the center. The tail should also touch the center.


  • Add fleurs to all the diamonds on the glossy cardstock.


  • Let the fleurs dry for a couple of hours at least.

  • Once the fleurs are dry, add white pearls to each place where the lines intersect.


  • Tie a bow and add your bow and ribbon to the bottom of the card. Add glue to the back of the paper flower and add this under the bow and ribbon.

  • Attach your finished glossy card to your black card base.

Hedge Hugs Card

Instructions

  • Create a base card that is 4-3/4” x 3-1/4” using American Crafts Sunflower cardstock.

  • Use the border punch to trim the right side of the cover of the card so the inside of the card is just visible.

  • Cut a 4-1/4” x 2-7/8” panel of Basic Grey Green At Heart – Lush DP and to adhere to the Sunflower cardstock.

  • Cut a 3-3/4”x1-1/2” strip of Green At Heart – Basil DP.

  • Cut a 3-1/2”x 1-1/4” strip of Green At Heart – Recycle DP and layer together.

  • Adhere panel to left side of card cover as shown in photo.

  • Using the letters h, u, g and s from the Basic Grey Kioshi – ABC Chip Board Stickers, spell out “hugs” over the layers as shown in photo.

  • Select one of the small butterfly chipboard embellishments from the coordinating Basic Grey Green At Heart - Chip Sticker Shapes and string a fiber through the hole and attach it to the letter “u”.


  • Select the hedgehog chipboard embellishment from the coordinating Basic Grey Green At Heart - Chip Sticker Shapes and adhere to the card.

  • Embellish the lower left side of the card with half pearls.

  • Finish the inside of the card using a 4-1/2” x 3” panel out of the Basic Grey Green At Heart – Jungle DP.

Painted Flowers of Spring

Spring has finally arrived!

Nature is a huge inspiration for my art. When I look at nature I see a palette full of beautiful color. With the beauty and freshness of the season, I came up with this fun card to share with you.

Painted Flowers of Spring

Instructions

  • For this card you will need to create a “torn text” background.

    • To do this, you will need to get a few pages from an old novel. I like using pages from an obsolete hardback book because the pages are a little sturdier than those in a paperback.
    • Cut a piece of sturdy cardstock 4” x 5”. This is what you will attach the torn text to.
    • Take the pages from the novel and tear into about a dozen or so pieces, in random sizes and shapes.
    • Using Distress Ink (Shabby Shutters) stipple the edges of the torn text pieces. This will give the pieces a distressed and dimensional look.



    • Next, you will want to run these torn text pieces through your Xyron machine. I find that this is the easiest and quickest way to get complete adhesive coverage on the pieces. You can also use a glue stick to glue each piece.



    • On the 4” x 5” piece of cardstock that you previously cut, start laying out the pieces randomly. Make sure you tilt the text in different directions.
                Tip - I work on a piece of Xyron backing so that the pieces overhanging the edge of the cardstock don’t stick to my work surface.



    • After all of the pieces are adhered to the cardstock, flip the piece over and tightly fold over all of the overhanging edges. They will stick easily to the back. You may want to clip the corners of the text papers so they fold over nice and neatly.



    • Flip back over and lay the Xyron backing piece on top of the torn text piece. Using your bone folder, burnish well. This will secure all of your torn text pieces in place.

  • Next you'll need to make the flowers.

    • I stamped flower images on basic watercolor paper using a permanent black ink. I heat set my ink before painting. Feel free to heat emboss with embossing powder if you wish.
    • Using a waterbrush and ink from my Marvy brush markers, I painted each flower and additional flower centers.
    • Cut out each flower and extra flower centers.

                  Green Tip – Re-use plastic packaging from purchased embellishments for paint palettes. They are easy to clean up over and over. I used this handy piece from Tim Holtz packaging.


  • Before attaching your flowers to the background, you will want to layer your “torn text” background onto a card base..

    • I layered mine onto black and ocean cardstock before attaching to my green card base.

    • Arrange your painted flowers and attach with glue and pop dots. I attached the leaves and the smallest flower directly to the card background. The remaining flowers are all attached with pop dots. All flower centers are also attached with a pop dot. This card has a lot of dimension!



    • I added a pearl to the center of the larger flower, and sparkle ink to the remaining flower centers.

    • Add a butterfly embellishment and your card is complete. I used some simple satiny butterflies. Prima makes some beautiful butterflies that would enhance this card.

White on White Pop-up gift card holder

White on White Gift Card

This white on white format card is perfect for a wedding gift or a christening. Though it may look hard to make it really is quick and easy once you master a couple of basic techniques.

The front of this card is adorned by using Cuttlebug border embossing folders and a simple technique to eliminate edge marks and with straight lines embossed using the Scor-Pal.

The inside of the card, which features a simple pop-up mechanism, holds a standard sized gift card.

Materials

  • White matte card-stock
    • card base - 4 1/4” x 11”
    • front panel - 4” x 5 1/4 ”,
    • pop-up mechanism - 4 1/4” x 5”

  • Tools

  • Cuttlebug Embossing Folders

  • Adhesives

  • Spellbinders small rubber sheet ( WIZ-smrubber   $8.99)

  • White Organza Ribbon ( 1/4" - CR-ORG4-Wht   $0.30/yard), about 8" tied in a bow

Instructions

  • Embossing Technique

    • Embossing with the small Cuttlebug folders can be tricky. Using the regular sandwich (A, B, folder, B) may leave marks at the edges of the folder. We’ll use a special technique to avoid those marks.

    • Cut a piece of the Spellbinders rubber sheet just a little smaller than the embossing folder. Then create the sandwich using the A and C plates as follows: A plate, card-stock with the folder, raised side facing up, the piece of rubber sheet, and then the C plate. The rubber will apply pressure only at the center of the folder, so the edges won’t emboss lines.



    • When embossing multiple small folders, start at the center of the card-stock and work outward toward the edges. Roll the sandwich only just past the folder, and then back the sandwich out to avoid flattening parts you’ve already embossed.

  • Make the Card Exterior

    • Using the Scor-Pal, score the 4 1/4” x 11” card at 5 1/2”. Crease to create the card. Set aside.

    • Emboss the swiss dot folder from the Just My Type embossing folder set in the center of the front panel, then the little floral line from the With Love embossing folder set to its left. Emboss either of the symmetric corner folders from the Fancy Corners set twice at the far right of the panel, once from the top and once from the bottom.

    • Using the Scor-Pal on the wrong side of the card front, score lines at the edges of each of the embossed regions, and then randomly to form an attractive pattern.



    • Affix the embossed panel to the card front.

    • Attach the bow to the front of the card using the glue of your choice.

  • Make the Card Interior

    • Using the Scor-Pal, score the 4 1/4” x 5” piece of card stock at 1/4”, 2 1/2”, and 4 3/4”. Mountain fold on each of the score lines, creasing well.

    • Place the gift card centered on the pup-up mechanism. Punch holes with the quarter-inch hole punch, on the center crease of the mechanism, right next to the outside edges of the gift card.

    • Cut a slit between the two punches.



    • Apply a strip of red liner tape to both of the quarter-inch flaps. Affix the inside panel inside the card using that red liner tape, putting the open end barely away from the fold of the card.

    • Insert the gift card into the slot in the mechanism.

Mom's Apron

I fondly remember being a little girl and watching my mom bake in the kitchen. She always had a pretty apron on and to this day I love making those same things that she still makes too.

For this Mothers Day Card, I decided to create a shape card just for Mom. You can find Apron Templates on the Splitcoast Stampers template board.

Instructions

  • Cut Cardinal cardstock from apron template

  • Cut Early Bird patterned paper from same template, trimming edges down ¼”. Adhere 3 ½” of ribbon to each back side of the patterned paper on the top. Adhere entire piece to cardstock.

  • Cut out pocket using template from Early Bird patterned paper. Adhere ribbon to top edge. Tie bow from second piece of ribbon and adhere to center of pocket using Glossy Accents.

  • Adhere piece of Bo Bunny trim to bottom edge of card.

  • Using black pen, add stitching to entire edge of card.

  • Cut out flowers and leaves from Early Bird patterned paper using scissors. Apply stickles to flowers. Let dry, then adhere to card front using Micro Foam dots.

  • Finish card with Alpha letter and stickles.
