    • EK Success Punch, 1 inch circle     ( EK-EKPL-7000   $8.99)
    • Ultimate Gel Pen, Black     ( AMC-ULT-blk   $1.59)
  • Adhesives

Instructions

  • Trim the bags along the opening side so that they measure 11 inches in length.

  • Adhere the side flaps together to disable the bags ability to open up fully.

  • Cut all of the white cardstock to the following dimensions –

    • Use this guide with 6 pieces of card

    • Use this guide with 4 pieces of card

    • Use this guide with 2 pieces of card

    • You should then have two pieces of card measuring 12 inches by 7 inches for the cover,
six pieces of card measuring 12 inches by 5 inches for the journaling section and
twenty four pieces of card measuring 5 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches to cover each of the pages of your album.

  • Fold each of the paper bags in half and adhere one of the white cardstock pages to each of the four panels for each of the bags.

  • Open out each bag and lay flat on a non porous surface and spray with Peach Delight Glimmer Mist.
Leave to dry then re-spray with Jack Frost Glimmer mist.
Turnover and repeat on the other side of each bag when completely dry.

  • Use the circle punch to punch out a semi-circle from the centre of opening (see image for further clarification).
Ink all the edges of the pages.

  • Sew the 6 bags together along the fold using a binding stitch.
(I prefer to punch four centred holes along the fold and then run my stitches through these to bind the pages together).

  • Ensure your album is turned so that the un-punched side is facing up.
    This is the first page.
Your album pages should be organised as follows:
    • Page 1 – Month summary
    • Page 2 – January Photo
    • Page 3 – January title
    • Page 4 – February title
    • Page 5 – February Photo
    • Page 6 – March Photo
    • Page 7 – March title
    • Page 8 – April Title
    • Page 9 – April Photo
    • Page 10 – May Photo
    • Page 11 – May title
    • Page 12 – June title
    • Page 13 – June Photo
    • Page 14 – July Photo
    • Page 15 – July title
    • Page 16 – August title
    • Page 17 – August Photo
    • Page 18 – September Photo
    • Page 19 – September title
    • Page 20 – October title
    • Page 21 – October Photo
    • Page 22 – November Photo
    • Page 23 – November title
    • Page 24 – December title

    • The second December page will be created on the inside of the back cover when it is attached.
I decorated my album by outlining everything with the black pen, adding a large Month title and Patterned paper strips above and below the month.
I kept everything the same to simplify the creation of this book and to unify all of the pages.

  • Lay out each of the 5 inch by 12 inch pieces of white card.
    Score and fold in half.
Cut six 3inch lengths of ribbon and adhere to one side as shown in the photo.

Glue both halves together to form a double thickness card, repeat with the remaining 5 pieces.

  • On the front of one of these journaling cards (the front has a ribbon hanging from the right side) write January along the bottom right corner and doodle a border around the remaining edges of the card as shown in the photo.

Repeat on the back, writing February.
Continue in this way, so that the six cards have all twelve months written on them.
Each with go in one of the pockets of the album.

  • Adhere the two 7 inch by 12 inch card pieces together to form the cover of the book.
Score 5 3/4 inches from each side to create a ½ inch spine in the centre of the cover and fold along these lines.
From the patterned paper cut a strip that measures 7 inches by 12 inches.
Cut out a section as shown in the photo and adhere to the front of the cover.

I then prefer to sew around my edges with a sewing machine to strengthen the cover.
Adhere this spine to the binding edge of the album.

  • Add the title to the front of the album and decorate with Prima flowers and leaves.
(To create the flowers I used, I layered three pieces together from the centres)

  • Use the Glitter letters to put the initial in place on each page, for that particular month.
Doodle the remaining letters of the Months title or alternatively, print them in a small type font and punch them out with a small square punch.

Modern Asian Thank You

by Kris Hankins

One of my favorite Basic Grey collections is Kioshi. To me, it has a modern day asian flair to it. The colors are soft yet bold. This card was made using this collection of paper.

Modern Asian Thank You

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Basic Grey Kioshi 6"x6" pad     ( BG-6x6-Kioshi   $5.99)
    • Olive Green cardstock scrap
    • Cream cardstock of choice - made into a 4”x6” card base and a cut 2.5” x 5” piece
  • Stamps
    • Asian /”thank you” sentiment stamp(s) of choice
  • Inks and Embossing Powders
  • Embellishments
  • Tools
  • Adhesives

Instructions

  • Cut and attach a 4” x 6” piece of printed cardstock from the Basic Grey Kioshi collection, onto the front of your cream colored card base.

  • On the 2.5” x 5” piece of cream cardstock, stamp your Asian image(s) using fluid chalk ink (lime pastel, olive pastel, and warm violet).
Stipple the edges of cardstock using the lime pastel fluid chalk ink.
Also stamp a “thank you” sentiment onto a scrap of cream cardstock using the warm violet fluid chalk ink.
Layer the sentiment onto the coordinating purple Kioshi paper.

  • Mat this stamped cardstock onto a coordinating printed piece of Kioshi paper.
    Leave about a 1/8” edge.

  • Mat this onto a purple piece of Kioshi paper.
    Leave about a 1/16” edge.
This stamped piece will now be double matted.

  • I tried something different for my “trim”.
I cut (3) narrow olive colored strips from a cardstock scrap.
They should be about 1/8” x 10” (approx.).
Lay and tape one end of the strips down to your work surface.
    Braid the three pieces together.
Be sure to “fold” each strip when bringing it over to the front.

This braided trim was attached to the far left side of the stamped layer by taping ends securely to back.
Attach matted layers to front of card using 3D foam dots.

  • Attach sugared Prima flower and sentiment to the card using 3D foam dots.

  • As a final touch, highlight the stamped images using a Sakura Stardust pen.

Matchbox Calendar

by Kathy Berger

Matchbox Calendar

This project is a wonderful way to use up scraps of patterned paper or card-stock. These calendars are very quick and easy to make, and are a wonderful little gift for a friend.

Instructions
  • Download this Calendar Blank (in PDF format) and print it.
(Note: this is a 2011 calendar. Updated calendars can be found here: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015)

Cut out each of the months along the solid lines.
  • Using a Scor-bug or similar tool on the Scor-Buddy, perforate each of the calendar pages at 1 3/4" from the top edge, as shown.

  • Stack the calendar pages in order, with January on top (I use a little adhesive near the bottom edge of each page to hold them together.)
    Set aside.
  • Cut both the pink cardstock and the Endure paper to 2 3/4" x 5 3/4".
Glue them together using adhesive of choice.
  • When dry, score the piece (patterned paper face up, in landscape orientation) at 3/4", 3 1/2", and 3 2/3" (the triangle on the Scor-Buddy.)
Mountain fold each of the scores (so the pink is on the inside).
  • Place the stack of calendar pages inside the smallest fold.
Staple the pages in place with a single staple, as shown in the following photo.

  • Tuck the edge of the matchbook lid under the lip of the stapled end and set aside.

  • Punch two flowers out of white cardstock.
Use the brush end of the marker to mark all of the edges of the punched flowers with brown ink.
Gently curl the petals of each of the two flowers downward.
Make a couple of small "vein" marks on each of the petals with the writing tip of the marker.
Glue the two flowers together, offset from each other so the petalsof one fill the gaps in the other.
  • Use Direct to Paper technique to apply the victorian violet ink to a small piece of white cardstock.
When the cardstock is dry, punch a 3/4" cirlce.
Go around the edges of the punched circle with the brown brush marker. Glue the circle to the center of the flower.
  • Glue the flower and the butterfly embellishment to the front of the matchbook.
Draw a dotted curve from the back of the butterfly off the bottom edge of the matchbook.
