Hair Tie Holder (Sharon Jeffs)

Hair Tie Holder
by Sharon Jeffs

One thing that is a huge hassle in the mornings is the mad dash hunt for a hair tie by my daughters. Its always guaranteed to be a panic so I decided to create a place to store them!

To make mine, I began by cutting out two chipboard shield shapes. One the first I adhered the rose ribbon around the edges then put it aside to dry. One the second piece, use the Sky Mist and Cranberry Dauber to create a background then once dry I coated it with Rock Candy Crackle paint.

Once both chip board pieces were dry, I layered them together using foam tape after attaching the three Curio Knobs along the base. To decorate my holder, I added a handout chipboard shape and various Ideology embellishments. As a final touch, I stamped and coloured 6 stamped Magnolia images the compiled them with foam tape to create a 3D version of the image.

Sketch Sunday - March 2013

This is our sketch for the month of March. We hope that you will use it to make a card of your own, and if you do, that you will share it with us by posting a link in the comments. But first we hope you will enjoy the cards our design team members made, inspired by the sketch.

Wishing Well
by Sharon Jeffs

Sharon chose to use her Wishing Well coloring project (March 1, 2013) to make the card for today's sketch. She added a few blossoms to stand in for the scalloped round element, and let the deep embossing of background layer take the place of the corner element.

Best Wishes
by Kathy Berger

Kathy's card uses a background paper by Kaisercraft, from the 6 1/2"x6 1/2" Secret Admirer paper pad, a strip of white card-stock cut with a Spellbinders Classic Scallop Edgeabilities die, a black card-stock butterfly die-cut with a Memory Box Vivienne butterfly die, and a stamp, Pixie, from FranticStamper's own line of cling-mounted rubber stamps. The pixie was colored with Copic Ciao markers, and then cut with the "out of the box" technique, with only the wings fussy-cut. The saying was stamped on a doily fussy-cut from another paper in the Kaisercraft pad that coordinates perfectly with the floral.

Happy St. Patty's Day
by Kathy Berger

Kathy made a second card, this time a rectangular take on the sketch, in celebration of St. Patrick's Day (today!).

This card uses a lace background stamp by FranticStamper, embossed in clear on a white card, and then sponged with Peeled Paint Distress ink. The shamrock was made by putting Washi tape onto a scrap of cardstock to make stripes, and then using a heart punch by Martha Stewart to punch 3 hearts.

The saying (source unknown) is stamped and punched with a 1.25" circle punch. The lacey strip across the bottom of the card is a Martha Stewart border punch and a strip of Washi tape. The upper left corner also sports a strip of Washi tape, plus a simple green bow.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! (By the way, Kathy is half Irish. Her paternal grandmother was Annie O'Brien, and her maternal grandfather was Henry Kirby. Does that only earn her half of a kiss?)

Dazzling Rose
by Lis Whiting

Lis chose to go with a rectangular card for her sketch card. She used a piece of the Hot Off the Press holographic ripple card stock in red and a Dazzles gold borders, both of which are pretty tough to photograph! The rose is from FranticStamper's own line of cling-mounted stamps. The window was cut with a FranticStamper Precision die .

Flower Coat Lady
by Jennifer Willis

Jennifer chose to use the Frantic Stamper - Flower Coat Lady Cling-mounted rubber stamp and Bo Bunny's Serenity paper to make her card. The Lady was colored with Copics and then fussy-cut and layered onto the tan panel.

Strawberry Baskets (Kathy Berger)

Strawberry Baskets
by Kathy Berger

I stamped the FranticStamper Lg Strawberries image with Memento Tuxedo Black dye ink onto a plain white card, to the right of the center of the card. I then carefully colored the baskets, strawberries, flowers, and leaves with colored pencils and blended carefully with paper stumps dipped in Goo Gone™. I added a bit of sky in the top of the baskets and some ground around the baskets and between the berries. These were also blended with the Goo Gone™.

Once the coloring was done to my satisfaction, the rest of the card was quick to finish. I simply added a strip of red patterned paper to the left of the card, and popped on a sunshine button which had been strung with red baker's twine.

Family Is Mini-Book (Lis Whiting)

Family Is Mini-Book
by Lis Whiting

I love mini books.  When I saw the Family Is collection by BoBunny, I thought these papers would make a great little family mini book.  Here is how I made my little book.

I cut the pages for my mini book from the Family Is design. (I always like to lay out my book before I start decorating or gluing to make sure that what I have flows well.)  So, I chose the fronts and back of each page and turned the "pages" so I could see how it would look.  (I always make changes too!)

I wanted little pockets in my mini book so I used some of the Ask Dad (green side). I took a border punch and punched a design in the middle.  I used a matching corner punch on some other pieces. I attached my pockets with one glue dot at the bottom and eyelets on either side in gold. I decided to bind my book using a ribbon at the top left corner. I used distress ink to add some color to the edges of the pages.

To bind my book I punched a hole in the upper left corner of each page. I tied a double bow in my ribbon. I threaded both ends of the ribbon from the front to the back (the bow will not go through the hole) and then through a crown charm and then back through the hole to the front again. I left enough ribbon so that I could turn the pages easily. I ruffled the ribbon ends in the front and glued them down with glue dots.

Here is my little book again with all its pages!

Cover:  I thought the cameo was a nice touch.  Although it covers some of the words, its easy to know what the words are because they are familiar.

Pages 2 and 3:  I used a number of the stickers from the Family Is collection.  I also cut out a number of pieces from Happy, Me&Mine and Mischief.  The label on the left is adhered with mounting tape. I think these labels are great to use to mat family pictures in.

I really love pockets!  I love to tuck little things in them.

There are two great alphabets on the sticker sheet that I used.  I liked all the fun little sayings too!

This is my favorite page!  I know that everyone has sayings they remember their mom using.  So, I made a pocket and put some in.

What is great about Happy (the Family Is sheet I used) is that there are blank bubbles.  I cut some of these out too.  That way I can write down some of my own mom's personal sayings to add to my book.

This is the back of my book.

I sure hope you enjoyed my little book! This would be a great little book for a vacation, a birthday party or other family celebration.

Hello Card, in 10 (Kathy Berger)

Hello Card, in 10
by Kathy Berger

Welcome to the newest feature by the FranticStamper Design Team! We call this feature Card, in 10. In it, we will feature a card we created in 10 (or fewer) minutes. These cards will mostly be Clean and Simple cards, and will use a minimum of embellishment and very few layers.

The first card in the series is one made by Kathy Berger, our Design Team Leader. Kathy's card is shamelessly CASED from a card from A.J. Otto's blog TheWillowGarden.blogspot.com. When she saw A.J's card, Kathy immediately thought of the Dotty Daisy clear stamp set by Stampendous, and knew she just had to use that set to make her own version of the card. She used Memento inks in six colors (Lady Bug, Tangelo, Dandelion, Pear Tart, Bahama Blue, Grape Jelly) with the large flower from the set on a piece of white card-stock, and then added the "hello" saying from the same set, stamped in the Grape Jelly ink. She mounted that piece of card-stock onto an orange note card blank (a little smaller than a "standard" A4 card.)

Kathy pumped up her card with some Studio 112 clear gems in the centers of each of the flowers, and in the center of the "o" in "hello".

We hope you enjoyed this card and will enjoy this new feature. We hope to share a quick card, a "Card, in 10" twice a month to start, and perhaps more often if we can.

Using Silhouette Stamps (Sharon Jeffs)

Using Silhouette Stamps
by Sharon Jeffs

When using a Silhouette stamp I'm always searching for ideas and ways to add colour.  Thats why when I saw this idea on Pinterest, I wanted to have a go in my own way!

To create the background I used a piece of normal white card stock, 3 different coloured Distress markers and an acrylic block.  I began by scribbling colour onto the acrylic block in sections then I spritzed it with water, allowing the colours to blend slightly before pressing the card into the inky puddle.  Once lifted off, the colours slowly soak into the card leaving this very cool water-colour effect to stamp over.

For mine, I chose a Frantic Stamper stamp called Couple eating.

I was so excited by the final product that I chose to make it into a card immediately:

Bon Voyage (Kathy Berger)

Bon Voyage
by Kathy Berger

This card uses the Copic-colored Aviatrix image we shared on the blog yesterday to create a fun and festive Bon Voyage card. My daughter is heading back to France for her spring break, and this card will hold a little something to help out on her trip (in Euros.)

To create the card, I mounted part of a sheet of paper by Kaisercraft, from the 6 1/2"x6 1/2" Secret Admirer paper pad onto a 6" x 6" white card base. I used the We R Memory Keepers Deco Corner Chompers to punch the corners of my image (and the black card-stock it is mounted to) and then mounted it to the card.

Next, I used a My Favorite Things Cloud-Trio die to cut three clouds from felt (the metal adapter plate from Cheery Lynn made that possible) and then mounted the clouds onto the card.

I die cut the My Favorite Things picket fence from a scrap of white card-stock, and mounted it onto the card, using foam tape. I then mounted the die-cut My Favorite Things Eiffel Tower with foam dots.

I stamped the FranticStamper Bon Voyage saying onto white card-stock and trimmed to form a banner. I mounted that onto black card-stock and trimmed it. I wrapped the banner around a dowel to curl it, and then mounted it onto the card. Lastly, using foam dots, I mounted the flags banner, cut from a different sheet of paper from the Secret Admirer paper pad with the Joy Crafts Garland Flags Swag die.

Aviatrix Coloring Project (Kathy Berger)

Aviatrix Coloring Project
by Kathy Berger

Today I am coloring the Erté Aviatrix image from FranticStamper's own line of cling-mounted rubber stamps. I stamped the image onto Bazzill Classic - Smooth white card-stock using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then put the image onto a piece of white scrap paper and colored away with my Copic Ciao Markers (see the Products Used section for information on which markers were used on which parts of the image.)

When I was done coloring the head-scarf and the coat I used a piece of terry cloth and some of the colorless blender to add texture to them. I wet a small part of the terry cloth with the blender and daubed the image until I achieved the texture I was trying for.

When I was done coloring the gold accents on the image, I colored over them with a Copic Spica pen to add a subtle glittery glitz. I also accented the scarf with the same pen.
