Embossed Acetate Card

Embossed Acetate Card

Materials

Instructions

  • Trim A4 paper to 6 inches by 11 7/8 inches.

  • Place your card in a landscape orientation and score at the 4 inch and 8 inch mark. Fold in so that the smaller width section sits inside the card.



  • Mark out window on the centre panel that measures ½ an inch in from the top, bottom and both scored folds. Use a sharp blade, cut this section out.



  • Fold card in so that the smaller section is butted up against the window piece and trace the window. Cut out this section as well and set aside.



  • Using the butterfly stamp and the stazon pad, stamp the butterfly onto a scrap of acetate.



  • Shake each of the Smooch spritz’s well and spray a glass surface randomly.



  • Stamp the butterfly stamp into the spray and stamp down onto a piece of white card. Cut both butterfly images out.



  • Fold up the acetate butterflies wings slightly and then adhere to the card butterfly using a small amount of glossy accents along only the body section. Add dabs of Ice Stickles across the acetate wings and set aside to dry thoroughly.



  • Spritz a small amount of water across the remaining smooch ink still on the glass and stamp down into it with one of the flourish stamps. Stamp randomly around the edges of the centre section of the card. Using the blending tool, add in extra colour by dabbing and blending any remaining ink onto the surface of the card. Finally, add a layer of the Distress Rock Candy over the surface of the centre section and put aside to dry thoroughly.



  • Cut out a piece of acetate that measures 2 ½ inches by 5 ½ inches. Place it centrally within the cuttlebug embossing folder and run it through the cuttlebug or alternate embossing machine.



  • Once dry adhere embossed acetate panel between two window sections and glue together to form a single layer front of your card.



  • Attach butterfly to the front corner of your card.



  • Using the blending tool, blend Distress ink across the inside of the card. Stamp sentiment inside the card so that is peers through the acetate window.

Canvas Tile Tag Card

Canvas Tiles – Tag Card

I was in a card making mood today, but wanted to do something a bit “different”. I decided to make a “tag card”. It is simply a card cut in the shape of a tag with ribbons/fibers attached only to the front of the card. The look of a tag with the versatility of a card.
Make sure you check out the embellishments I made with wood tiles and sticky canvas.

Materials

  • Let’s start by making the Canvas Tiles used to embellish this card. These tiles can be made to embellish all sorts of art projects.

    • Take 3 wood/game tiles and ink up the sides and front edges of the tiles with Fluid Chalk ink (Chestnut Roan). Set aside to dry.



    • Cut (3) 2” squares of Ranger’s Sticky Back Canvas. Ink the canvas pieces with Fluid Chalk ink (Lime Pastel). Heat set with a heat gun.

    • Using small images from Tim Holtz stamp sets, stamp the canvas pieces using Memories black ink. Heat set with a heat gun.



    • Determine what part of the stamped images you want to the focal point of your canvas tiles. Trace around your tile with a pencil directly to the face of the inked canvas. Trim inside the trace lines.



    • Once you know that the canvas will fit the tile properly (a little small is best) adhere the sticky canvas pieces to the tiles. Cover with a piece of paper and burnish well.

    • Using a blending tool, lightly ink the edges of the small canvas pieces using the Chestnut Roan Fluid Chalk ink. Heat set with a heat gun.



  • Now let's construct the tag card.

    • For this card cut a 6” x 7” piece of Kraft cardstock. Fold in half to make a finished card (3.5” x 6”). At the top corners of card, angle cut the corners at ¾” from corner point.



    • Take the vintage style printed papers you have chosen and cut a 1” x 6” strip and a 2.5” x 6”strip. Glue them to the card front. Trim any excess overhang.

    • Distress the edges of the card using your Distress Tool and/or sandpaper.



    • Attach your gathered ribbon piece vertically where the two printed papers match up. I used mini glue dots to attach this fluffy ribbon.

    • Glue the three finished canvas tiles to the tag. Snug them up next to the ribbons edge.

    • Add your favorite vintage style prima flowers at the base of the card.

    • Embellish the ribbon/flowers with a trinket pin. Add a couple of glass beads to the pin and stick the pin into the ribbon so that the metal stem is hidden (and point ends up in a glue dot).



    • Add the stamped word “family” to the card front.

    • At the top front of card, punch a hole and add a matching eyelet. Thread the olive colored ribbon through it. Tie a bow around the ribbons using a scrap of fabric/muslin.



Your “canvas tile” tag card is now done. Enjoy!

Arc de Triomphe Tag

Instructions

  • Cover card with text paper from the french book page.

  • Using cut and dry foam swipe white acrylic paint over parts of the tag.

  • Leave to dry.

  • Repeat with the purple paint.

  • Spray whole tag with moon glow mist spray.

  • Blot off some of the excess and leave to dry.

  • Stamp arc de triomphe and happy spring with black ink.

  • Stamp heart flower with dusty concord ink.

  • Glue the bow into place.

“Tag” Note Card and Gift Tag Set

I love this new S.E.I. Jocelyn double-sided paper. It has such pretty designs and foiled, glittered and embossed patterns. I made this note card and gift tag set using these beautiful new papers.

Instructions

  • You need two tags. One 8 ½“ x 4 1/8 “ in size for the note card, and one 6 ¼” x 3 1/8” for the gift tag. To get the jumbo sized tag, cut from white cardstock.



  • Using the Marvy punches, punch flower and scallop shapes from the Jocelyn BFF paper. Be sure to capture a variety of colors, textures, and patterns.



  • Using scissors, cut one flower from the Jocelyn ROTFL paper.



  • Measure both tags and find the center measurement. For my jumbo tag (note card) my center was 4.25” The center measurement for the smaller tag (gift tag) was 3 1/8”.

    After finding the center measurement, offset your score line by 1/8”. Example – 8 ½” tag with the center measurement of 4 1/4” will be scored at 4 3/8” from the bottom/square end of tag.



  • When the tags are folded on the score lines, the fronts of the cards will be ¼” narrower than the back of cards. This allows for contrasting paper on the inside of card s to show.



  • The front of my note card is covered with Jocelyn ILU paper. You will need to trim the corner angles and punch a new hole after adhering the paper to the front of the tag.

    The inside of the note card is lined with Jocelyn LOL paper. Line only the back panel. This paper will show along the cards edge when the card is closed.



  • I added a border strip of Jocelyn BRB along the folded edge of the note card.

    I did the same basic procedure for the smaller tag (gift tag). I used Jocelyn BRB for the front and Jocelyn LOL on the inside.



  • Next, I decided which flowers I wanted to use on the front of each card.



  • I layered two punched flowers together with 3D foam squares to use on the front of the gift tag.

    I used two punched flowers and one hand cut flower on the note card. The hand cut flower is on 3D foam squares for added depth.



  • The flowers were embellished with Kaiser Craft rhinestones and pearls.



  • To finish of the note card and gift tag set, pieces of coordinating ribbon were tied to the tags.



Try this fun variation in card making. Think outside the box and try making cards from something other than just basic cardstock.

Changito Swings Pendulum Card

Changito swings back and forth on his vine on the front of this card. The inside reads "just swinging by to say... hang in there." I hope you'll enjoy learning this very simple way of adding motion to your card.

Materials

  • Ink Pads
  • Copic Ciao Markers
  • Paper
    • White card stock
      • 11" x 4 1/4" folded to make 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" card
      • 5" x 3 3/4"
      • Scrap for stamping Changito and leaves
    • Bazzill Singles - Jade, Canvas texture     ( BAZ-5-555   $0.59),   cut to 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Tools
  • Adhesives
    • 1/4" Circular Foam Pop Dot
    • 3D Square Foam Dots     ( BC-foam-lgsq   $2.99)
    • adhesive of choice
  • One penny or similar small coin or weight

Instructions

  • Using the Versafine Onyx Black ink, stamp the vine from the Changitos Dos set onto the scrap white cardstock.
    Also in black, stamp Changito from the Changito the Monkey set so that he appears to be hanging from the vine.
    And again in black, stamp the large leaf from the Changito the Monkey set four times.
    Color all of the stamped images using the Copic markers, cut out, and set aside.


  • On the 5" x 3 3/4" piece of white cardstock, stamp solid leaves and vines from both sets using the various green inks in order to form a jungle setting.
    Use the brown Copic markers to add tree trunks or coconuts to complete the scene as desired.


  • Using the long-reach punch, punch a hole centered horizontally on the jungle scene, about 1 1/4" from the top.
    Insert the 1/4" foam dot into this punched hole.

    Affix a small piece of scrap cardstock to the back of the foam dot.
    Affix one of the cut out leaves to the front of the foam dot.

  • Affix a penny to the back of Changito.

    Affix the top of the vine to the leaf that is attached to the pop dot.
    Adhere the remaining leaves to the jungle scene to decorate as desired.

  • Use the foam dots to adhere the jungle scene layer to the green layer.
    Adhere the green layer to the white card.
    Stamp the two sayings ("just swinging by" from Changito Dos and "hang in there" from Changito the Monkey) on the inside of the card using the Versafine Onyx Black ink.
    • The card is finished. When it held vertically and tipped from side to side, Changito will swing back and forth across the card.
I hope you'll enjoy making your own simple pendulum card. Imagine using this technique for a pocket watch swinging from its chain (like a hypnotist would use), a child swinging on a rope swing, or a metronome in a music scene. It is so easy to do and very versatile.

  • Prepare card base
    • Cut black cardstock to the size of 5 1/4"X10 1/2", score it and fold in half.
    • Cut 2 pieces of diamond pattern paper (pattern on reverse side of one piece used on card) and black check pattern paper to the size of 5"X5". 
    • Cut check pattern paper and 1 piece of diamond pattern paper into triangles.  
    • Layer triangle pieces onto full diamond pattern paper sheet as shown. 
  • Prepare main image
    • Using photographic stamp image, ink image with Versamark ink, stamp onto Vanilla cardstock and emboss with black embossing powder.
    • Trim, and using the sponge distress the edges with brush corduroy and spice marigold ink.
    • Layer onto pale orange and pale green cardstock.  
    • Set aside for the moment. 
  • Assemble the card
    • Run ribbon through Xyron sticker machine and adhere ribbon to background pattern paper along bottom edge.
    • Adhere background pattern paper to card.
    • Adhere embossed image at an angle onto card.
  • Add finishing touches
    • Using The Ultimate Glue, adhere "Family" embellishment to lower corner and allow to dry.

Instructions

  • This is a very simple layout, based on using multiple papers and embellishments from the same line.



  • The background paper is a busy pattern that can draw the eye away from the image, which must be the focal point of the page. That’s the reason why I decided to use tags, die cuts and stickers around the picture, in order to highlight it a little.

  • The picture was stitched on the tags and the paper, and then I finally put some more tags and stickers over it.

  • The title (with fabric chipboard pieces) is simply stuck onto a Memo tag and means “Grandpa”, since the page is about my grandfather, with this picture that I love!!

Like I said: very simple! I hope this was inspiring to you!
