Autumnal “Blessing”

It is the time of year that we seem to concentrate more on being thankful for all of the blessings in our lives. Here is a classic autumnal card with a bit of a twist.

Materials

Instructions

  • Checkered Strip Technique

    • To create the colorful “filmstrip” piece, you will start by cutting a 5/8” wide x 3” long strip from each of the fall colored cardstocks.
      Be consistent in your cuts.

    • Cut a 2 ¾” x 3” piece of kraft cardstock.
Run through a Xyron machine OR completely cover one side of it with your favorite adhesive.

    • Lay one strip down at a time on the sticky piece of kraft cardstock.
Line up the cut edge of the first strip with the cut edge of the kraft cardstock.
    • Follow with the remaining strips.
Butt each strip up tightly next to the previous strip.
You don’t want any gaps between strips.
    • Trim any extra cardstock hanging over any edges.

    • Now, to form the long checkered strip, cut a 5/8” strip x 8” strip of kraft cardstock.
Run your favorite adhesive down this strip.

    • Take your striped piece and cut 5/8” wide strips.
      You will need 3 strips.

    • Lay these onto the 8” long craft strip.
      Align the cut edges.
Butt the seams up (no gaps).
      Trim any excess cardstock/edges.

    • Blessings Card Assembly

      • From your cream cardstock, make a 4 3/4” x 6 1/2” card base.

      • Cut a 4 3/4” x 6 1/2” Melon colored layer and stipple the edges lightly with Chestnut Roan chalk ink.
Attach to front of card base.

      • Cut a 1 1/4” x 4 3/4” piece of Kraft colored cardstock.
Lightly stipple the edges with Chestnut Roan chalk in.

      • Cut approximately 5” of film strip ribbon.

I wanted to have my film strip frames staggered over the checkered squares.
You can do it this way or make the frames line up perfectly over each colored square.

      • Determine the finished length you need.
I needed a 4 3/4” finished strip so I stapled the film strip ribbon onto the checkered strip just inside that total measurement.
Trim off any excess film strip or cardstock.
You may want to play with the placement of the film strip before stapling.

      • Glue this film strip piece down the center of the kraft cardstock strip that you previously cut and stippled.

      • Stamp your sentiment on a piece of cream colored cardstock using Rust Adirondack ink.
Trim this piece to the appropriate size for your sentiment.
Mat it using two different colors of cardstock (spinach green and wine).

      • Attach the sentiment and film strip segments to the front of your card.

      • Thread your three leaf buttons with twine and knot/trim.
Glue to the film strip ribbon on the front of your card.

Here is a little bonus project for you. Happy Thanksgiving!
