“Kiss Me” Tag

by Kris Hankins

“Kiss Me” Tag

I made this vintage “kiss me” tag for my special someone for Valentine’s Day. It shares a variation on the spotlight technique.

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Bazzill Dotted Swiss Phoenix     ( BAZ-2-245   $0.59)
    • Tim Holtz Seasonal Paper Stash     ( ADV-THPad-92866   $14.99)
    • Cream Cardstock of choice
  • Stamps
    • Valentine stamp of choice (chose an image with a central focal point)
  • Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Inks
  • Embellishments
    • Sheer Dots Ribbon, Light Brown, 24”     ( MA-JD-33   $0.59/yard)
    • Solid Satin Waves Ribbon, Brown, 10”     ( MA-QF-233   $0.99/yard)
    • French Lace Paper Doilies, 5”     ( FRA-DS5-20   $1.49)
  • Tools
  • Media

Instructions

  • Cut a 3.5” x 6” tag from the Bazzill Swiss Dots cardstock.
Age the edges of the tag with a stipple brush and chestnut roan fluid chalk ink.

  • On cream colored cardstock, stamp two (2) identical Valentine images – one using dark brown fluid chalk ink and one using warm red fluid chalk ink.

  • Cut out the “red” heart from one stamped image.

  • Add a layer of Ranger Sepia Accents to the entire heart.
    Let dry thoroughly.
Crack this piece when dried completely.
Accent the edges of the cracked heart with cinnamon Stickles.

  • Cut/trim around the outside of the 2nd stamped image (dark brown).
Stipple the edges with the warm red fluid chalk ink, followed by the chestnut roan fluid chalk ink.
You should end up with a vintage/aged look.

  • Tip – Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Ink is great to “age” paper.
It has the ability to stay wet just a bit longer than most inks, therefore allowing more work time.
Lightly applying this ink with a stipple brush gives a very soft aged look.
Just tap the brush in the ink and tap and swirl onto your paper.
Try using more than one color to accomplish this.

  • Glue the “cracked” heart securely to the base stamped image.
You now have a “spotlighted” image.

  • Highlight areas of the stamped piece with cinnamon Stickles.

  • Stipple a doilie using chestnut roan and dark brown fluid chalk inks.

  • Lightly rub cinnamon Stickles over the entire doilie, allowing the glitter to catch in the doilies design.
Attach the doilie to the front of the tag.
Trim (or fold back) any excess doilie.

  • Attach stamped image to tag using 3D foam dots.

  • From the Valentine paper in the Tim Holtz Seasonal Stash, cut out the letters needed to spell “kiss me”.
Attach to front of tag using 3D foam dots.

  • Punch a hole in tag and add your ribbons.
