“Happy Birdie” Gift Card Holder

by Kris Hankins

“Happy Birdie” Gift Card Holder

When I give a gift card, I usually want to give something a more than the store card inside of the store supplied envelope. I enjoy making gift card holders. Here is one that I made to give as a birthday gift.

Materials

  • Paper and Cardstock
    • Basic Grey, Marjolaine, Creme de Menthe     ( BG-MRJ-2915   $0.85)
    • Bazzill Half The Edge Borders, White     ( BAZ-JTE-303436   $2.99)
    • Scrap of white cardstock (for sentiment and bird)
    • Scrap of coordinating blue cardstock (mat layer)
  • Stamps
    • Asian /”thank you” sentiment tamp(s) of choice
  • Inks and Embossing Powders
  • Embellishments
    • Prima Pearls, Cornflower     ( PRI-ECO-300609   $1.59)
    • Prima Flower, Pearl Penache, Cosmic Blue     ( PRI-ME-537944   $3.99)
    • Ribbon, Sheer Pinstripe Blue/Black     ( MA-WS-10   $0.49/yard)
    • Small coordinating blue eyelets (2)
  • Tools
  • Media

Instructions

  • Cut a 4” x 11” piece from Basic Grey Marjolaine cardstock.
Score at 3.5” from one end, and 3” from other end. Fold.

  • Round the corners of the 3.5” end of the paper.

  • On the 3” end, center and punch a half circle using a 1” circle punch.

  • Secure this folded end with two small blue eyelets.

  • Stamp your choice of sentiment (“happy birdie to you”) on a scrap of white cardstock using Adirondack Denim ink.
Trim and layer sentiment onto a leftover piece of the Marjolaine paper and a scrap of blue cardstock.

  • From your scrap of white cardstock, cut out a “bird” using Tim Holtz Caged Bird Die.
Stipple the edges of the bird with the Denim ink.

  • Add cornflower pearls to the bird.

  • Cut a Bazzill Half the Edge Border piece to length.
Wrap with a knotted piece of Sheer Pinstripe ribbon.
Attach the bird to the back edge of the border piece.
    Attach all to card front.
    Adorn with a Prima flower.
I highlighted my flower with a Stardust Pen.
